In order for Google Analytics to track email signups, the following 3 steps are needed:

Step 1: create a page or post on your website to serve as your thank you page, which will be shown after people have signup to your email list. for example:

Step2: log into your mailchimp account to redirect your confirmation thank you page to your new url above.

Go to Lists -> Find your list you want to track (e.g. my “50% off List”), then click on Signup forms.

Then select “General forms”

Then click on the drop down menu below “Forms and response emails”

Select “Confirmation thank you page” and enter the url we had in step 1 here


Step 3: Set Goals in Google Analytics:

Log in Google Analytics and click on Admin (orange gear in lower left corner) select “Goals” in the right column

click on “+New Goal”

In the Goal setup, you want to choose “Custom”, then give your goal a name (e.g. “Email Signup”), Type choose “destination”, then in goal details choose Destination equals to “/thank-you”
